RECREATION ABOUNDS WITHIN GOVERNOR'S LAND
In addition to our spectacular golf course, marina and tennis courts,  Governor's Land offers a variety of ways to explore your recreational interests - all within the gates of this beautiful community!

Swim in two sparkling swimming pools.
The clear, cool, refreshing water in two six-lane, 25-meter pools, each with a wading pool for toddlers, is enjoyed by Governor’s Land residents and Two Rivers Country Club members throughout the summer.

The Park East Pool, located near the entrance to Governor’s Land, is open for recreational swimming and is home to our Two Rivers Typhoons Swim team, members of Virginia Peninsula Swimming Union (VPSU).

The Park West Pool, located adjacent to the clubhouse at Two Rivers Country Club, is a popular gathering place for recreational swimming, enjoying lunch or a refreshing beverage on the pool deck, or gathering for informal Country Club social affairs for all ages. This pool is also home to Water Walkers, a water aerobics program held several times a week .

Exercise in a modern fitness center.  Our fully equipped fitness center hums with activity from dawn to late evening, reflecting the growing interest of Governor’s Land residents and Two Rivers County Club members in fitness and wellness.

It is equipped with top of the line treadmills, elliptical trainers, a stationary bike, and a stair climber for aerobic workouts, as well as a complete line of weight machines and dumbbells for those interested in strength training and muscle toning.

Free group and individual instruction covering proper safe equipment use is provided to all participants.

The Fitness Center is available for use by all Governor’s Land residents and Country Club members. It is open year-round from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Play on well-maintained athletic fields.  Well-maintained playing fields invite good old fashion family fun or serious competition on a full-size basketball court, grass croquet court, soccer field, and tennis courts. Kids of all ages while away the hours shooting baskets or joining in spontaneous, pick-up games.

Summer soccer camp draws enthusiastic youngsters who dash about the field having fun and improving their skills. And what could be more fun than joining with your family or friends in a spirited game of croquet on a summer’s eve?

Enjoy the James River Beach.  Enjoy a day at the beach, a picnic or cookout, or plan a party on our beautiful, crescent shaped sand beach along the shores of the James River. The beach, which is accessible by paths from the parking area at the marina, features wonderful privacy for you and your family’s summer fun and is equipped with an electric power outlet, an outdoor shower, picnic tables and a grill. It’s the favorite spot for beach parties and oyster roasts, and the much anticipated annual Two Rivers Country Club’s Yacht Club Christmas Party featuring Santa on a barge off shore, a boat parade, caroling and a marshmallow roast.

Wander through the nature preserve.  Experience the exquisite tranquility of the 200-acre nature preserve in the Governor’s Land community. Wander miles of walking trails through heavily wooded areas, cross footbridges and covered bridges, and pause to watch the egrets from the observation decks along picturesque marshes.

Watch closely and you’ll spot a deer. Listen carefully and you’ll hear water lap the shoreline of the James River, the hoot of an owl or the sound of a woodpecker. Look skyward and you may see an eagle soar. Glance down to discover the infinite varieties of marsh and woodland flowers.

Each season brings new delights to enjoy in this area unspoiled since the days of John Smith and the Jamestown settlers.

Have fun at the playgrounds.  Swing high, swing your feet to the sky! It’s one of the greatest pleasures of childhood. There is much for the family to do in the playgrounds strategically located in Park East near the entrance to the Governor’s Land Community and at Park West adjacent to the pool. Enjoy a picnic on the picnic tables in the shaded area at Park East. Let the kids run and play while you sit on a bench and read. Or, just give the family a break from swimming in the Park West pool.

It’s all there waiting for you. Try the slide… climb in the playhouse… jump on the seesaw… Come on! The playgrounds are for the enjoyment of Governor's Land residents and the members of Two Rivers Country Club and their families. The playgrounds feature a variety of equipment designed for toddlers and children up to twelve-years-old.
